The bonds that existed in the villages of origin are dissolving, particularly the relationship between parents and children.
When asked about their children, many parents would have no idea of what their children do; they generally know the province of migration but would not know the location of the factory.
They are also unlikely to know the job their children do and when exactly they would come home. Often they are told by their children that they will come back with their new bride, who the parents do not know. This was unthinkable in Chinese society ten years ago.
Other bonds that are barking are between the migrant worker and his/her children. There are 260,000 migrant kids who lives in Guangdong, the majority of the children are brought back to the village of origin and left there. |
