A key downside of China’s economic growth is the degradation of its’s environment and the challenges to the country’s social stability. To put things into perspective, taking water and waste pollution, China’s most serious environmental challenge, around half of the 1.2 billion Chinese do not have access to clean water supplies and only 20% of the country’s solid waste is properly disposed of.
